Your Pindrop Hearing Assessment Journey

Initial Ear Examination

The process begins with a visual inspection of your ears using video otoscopy, allowing the audiologist to observe the ear canal and eardrum for obstructions or abnormalities.

If earwax is present, it will be removed to ensure accurate testing.

Middle Ear Assessment

Tympanometry is performed to evaluate middle ear function by measuring pressure and eardrum movement.

This test helps identify potential issues like fluid buildup or perforations, which can affect hearing.

Hearing Sensitivity Testing

Pure tone audiometry, conducted in a soundproof room, measures your hearing sensitivity across various frequencies using air and bone conduction.

This test determines the type and degree of any hearing loss.

Speech Understanding Evaluation

A speech-in-noise test assesses your ability to understand speech in noisy environments.

This test measures your speech discrimination by having you repeat sentences presented against background noise, simulating real-world listening challenges.

Your Results and Personalised Plan

The audiologist will explain your test results, detailing any hearing loss and its potential causes.

A discussion of your listening needs and lifestyle will follow, leading to personalised recommendations, which may include hearing aids.

If needed, hearing aid options will be discussed, and a fitting appointment will be scheduled.

What is pure Tone Audiometry with AC BC & Masking?

This is a standard hearing test performed through headphones where you will be asked to respond by pressing a button every time you hear a sound. We can modify the test for paediatric patients (find out more here)

What is Tympanometry?

A test of middle ear function to check the middle ear pressure to help in the diagnosis of middle ear conditions such as glue ear or eustachian tube dysfunction.

What is Speech Audiometry?

This is a test to determine how well you can hear speech at soft levels with and without background noise. You will be asked to repeat sentences presented to you through headphones or through loudspeakers. The volume level will be varied to determine the quietest level you can correctly identify speech (Speech reception threshold) and this will be compared to normal hearing.

What happens after my appointment?

Once you and your audiologist have chosen the perfect hearing aids for you (if needed) the aids can be ordered ready for fitting and your 40 Risk-Free trial period.

During your follow up appointment we will repeat the Speech In Noise test with you wearing your new hearing aids, so that we can compare to the results achieved with your old hearing aids. Therefore we can objectively measure the improvement.
