Where have you worked in Audiology?
I completed my BSc in Audiology at the University of Cape Town and began my audiology career in South Africa, having worked in Both a tertiary hospital alongside ENT’s as well as in private practice. I moved to the UK in 2022 where I have worked in independent audiology practices as a clinical audiologist
What were your main duties?
Throughout my experience, I have developed skills across adult and paediatric diagnostic hearing assessments, personalised hearing aid fittings, aural rehabilitation, and earwax removal. My focus has always been on providing patient-centred care and ensuring each person receives support that is tailored to their individual hearing and communication needs, whilst ensuring the highest possible level of evidence-based care.Alongside My clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about supporting the development of the audiology profession. I have had the opportunity to train audiology students, helping to improve clinical standards, share knowledge and encourage the next generation of audiologists through practical learning and mentorship.
Why did you get into audiology?
My passion for audiology started from my own personal experience with hearing loss within my family. Growing up, I saw the impact that hearing difficulties could have on communication and everyday life. The moment my mother came home with her hearing aids completely changed our family’s lives, as it made conversations easier and helped resolve many of the challenges caused by miscommunication. That experience- along with my own hearing loss showed me the powerful difference that better hearing can make, and it inspired me to pursue a career where I could help others experience the same positive change.I love that audiology allows me to combine science, clinical problem-solving, and meaningful connections. Being able to understand each patient’s unique challenges and develop a care plan that improves their communication and quality of life is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy that audiology is constantly evolving, giving me opportunities to continue learning and developing my skills
