Does ear wax removal hurt?

The vast majority of wax removals we do here at Pindrop in London are completely painless and do not hurt, as reported by the patients.

We occasionally see patients who have years of wax buildup in their ears which has led to the wax compacting and hardening and this can sometimes be more challenging to remove. We may have to use other tools to break up the wax before suctioning it out and this can sometimes be slightly uncomfortable.

If we ever anticipate that a patient may feel any discomfort we will always tell them beforehand so they’re fully prepared for what’s about to happen. These are extremely rare cases and even in these cases, it’s more a discomfort than it is painful.
We completely understand that people get a little nervous or anxious (or both!) before coming to see us and it’s completely normal. Our audiologists are highly trained, highly experienced and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet, so there really is no need to worry! We’ll walk you through the procedure step by step and even show you the before and after shots on screen so you can see the difference yourself. Before you know it, you’ll be leaving the clinic wondering what all the fuss was about and more importantly, you’ll be able to hear again.
