Where have you worked in Audiology?
As a student I worked in the NHS around Yorkshire and spent a year working at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull. I then moved into a position at a large high street chain where I became the field-trainer for London. In 2020 I went to work for Natus, a medical equipment manufacturer, in the Clinical Audiology training team.
What were your main duties?
As a trainer, I worked with Audiologists around London to learn about new hearing aid technology, provide guidance in complex cases and support audiologists with clinical audit. This gave me a good foundation for my work at Natus where I designed training courses and spoke at audiology conferences on a range of topics on how to improve adult and paediatric patient outcomes by maximising the functionality of their diagnostic and fitting equipment. I feel passionately about evidence-based practice and always used latest research and journal articles to illustrate the why, not just how.
Why did you get into audiology?
My interests at school were science and maths, but I knew that I wanted to work with people and perhaps in healthcare. When I was choosing my degree, there was a national shortage of audiologists and I also recall reading somewhere that Audiology is a career with high job satisfaction – which I can say is certainly true for me!
What are your areas of interest in Audiology?
Every day I see the enormous impact that a pair of well-fit hearing aids can have on a person’s life. It’s because of this that my special interests are around hearing aid programming and advanced verification. I am determined to get the maximum hearing aid performance and best possible hearing for every patient I see, and it is important to me to stay up to date with latest research and best practice guidance. A complex history never scares me; I love to break down the problems and create a clear management plan together with my patients.
What do you like about working at Pindrop Hearing?
At Pindrop Hearing there is a strong emphasis on clinical excellence. I love working somewhere with such high standards and being part of a team where I know that whichever audiologist a patient sees they will receive the best care possible.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I grew up in London and like to make the most of it – outside of work I try to go to as many restaurants, plays and art galleries as I can. I’ve been taking an evening Spanish class, because I love holidaying in Spain. I am a member of two book groups, and I do the occasional Park Run!
